This was probably the most fun I've ever had while photographing a wedding. It was also the first wedding I shot using primarily film AND my first beach wedding! Daunting and stressful? YES. However, it was totally worth the risk when I was able to see the finished product. What a wonderful thing that happens when you really trust and understand the AWESOME piece of equipment in your hand!
I met June and Kit while we were all working at the same hospital (for those of you that don't know, I'm also an ER nurse). Together, they have a contagious energy. It's hard not to smile when having a conversation with the two of them. Their wedding was exactly how I would have imagined it; intimate, energetic, sentimental and also a heck of a good time!
I loved the way the shades of blue in their details harmonized with the blue tones of the ocean and the colors at the venue. I'm also a lunatic and I'm OBSESSED with string lights. They add an interesting touch to the overhead space without being overly intrusive - so of course I was in love with the reception area around the pool!
Im a firm believer in standing back and letting moments happen authentically. Not everything has to be staged. I actually prefer candid moments over an organized portrait any day! This is one of my all time favorite portraits of a bride and her mother because it was an organic moment that I just so happened to catch at the right time.
Black and white portraits are timeless and romantic. Aside from the photos with dreamy blues and the warm beachy tones, these are some of my favorites! I was so excited that June also shared an appreciation for black and white photographs because these images have their own sense of warmth and glow. A wedding album can look monotonous when it's full of only color portraits. Monochromatic images add some character and finesse!
